Continue to use sketchy pencil strokes in the direction of fur growth.
When applied with light pressure, White will cover the colored layers very well.
Now that youâve added most of the color and tone in the face area, you can start to add some finer details. Using Caput Mortuum Violet, add fur line details in the cheek area and above the eyes.
Now for a little bit of magic! Glaze Dark Cadmium Orange over all of the more orange areas of the dogâs head, using very, very light pressure.
With Cold Grey I, add the lightest areas of the nose. Make small, round pencil strokes to replicate the texture of the nose, working across the nose with gentle pressure. Gently blend the lighter color at the top of the nose into the darker area of color; you want a subtle change in tone here.
Work down the middle of the nose with circular strokes, keeping an eye on the tones. Use Caput Mortuum Violet to bring more color into the middle of the nose. Again, make circular pencil strokes to capture the texture, being careful to capture the lighting.
Use Dark Indigo to add a slightly different tone to the nose just above the nostrils and coming down into the area between the nostrils. When mixed with Caput Mortuum Violet, this creates a lovely deep purple hue. Work around the nostrils and into the central part of the nose. Use very light pressure and round pencil strokes.
With Dark Sepia, darken the darkest areas, and switch to Granite Rose to add a few highlights.
Use Walnut Brown to make small tonal changes throughout the face and to add further hair lines where needed. Add fur details down and around the muzzle, over the whisker holes, and to the left of the nose, using very light pressure. Add further color to the chin area to darken.
Finish the face using White. Make sure your pencil is super sharp, and whisk in the whiskers. Use a quick, flicking pencil stroke.
